Reproduction describes a contemporary imitation intended to resemble an older commercially produced or crafted item. Repaint describes an authentic lure painted again after original manufacture. Restoration describes work intended to return an authentic item toward original condition. Club standards may define these terms more specifically.
Disclosure protects the hobby
Known alteration should be stated before sale or trade. Clear marking and description reduce fraud and preserve confidence. A well-made contemporary lure can be collectible in its own right when represented honestly.
Possible alteration signs
- Paint over screws, stamps, cracks, or hook rash.
- Fresh clear coat inside old chips.
- Uniform bright paint with aged hardware.
- Replacement eyes or skirts with disturbed surrounding paint.
- Box and lure wear that do not agree.
How to buy altered lures
Altered examples can be useful study pieces or attractive displays. Price them based on what they are, not what the untouched original might bring.
